A Weekly Guide to Advent
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Advent Week 1 November 27-December 3
[Not so] Random Act of Kindness Demonstrated by: Angels
Act of Kindness Project of the Week: Bless someone by serving them.
In Hebrews 1:14 we read: “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” Like angels we too are sent to minister to those around us. So, let’s choose this week to serve someone! Rake a neighbors leaves. Clean a neighbor’s gutters. Spend extra time at Parkview helping out in a classroom. Take the time to serve someone in order to, hopefully, get a chance to share the Christmas story with them.

[Not so] Random Act of Kindness Demonstrated by: Shepherds
Act of Kindness Project of the Week: Bless someone with your presence.
Psalm 96 is a wonderful psalm written for all peoples to proclaim the kingdom of Christ, the glory of God and His holiness. Psalm 96:3 writes, “declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” When the shepherds saw Jesus, they spread word about Him and everyone was amazed. This week contact a friend or call a relative and plan for a time to get together. Maybe it’s through a cup of coffee, a dinner, taking a walk, or a play-date. As you spend time with them, recount the glories of God in your life. Share the beauty of this season, just like the shepherds did when they saw baby Jesus.

[Not so] Random Act of Kindness Demonstrated by: Simeon
Act of Kindness Project of the Week: Bless someone with your words.
Just as Simeon blessed Jesus and his parents, let's be intentional about blessing others with our words. Tell the grocery store cashier how much you appreciate that they stand for so long and are still kind to the customer; tell the shelf-stocker that you appreciate that the shelves are stocked all the time, thank the housekeeping staff at the hotel you stay at for cleaning your room. Or, put your words in writing and bless someone with a written note of thanks or encouragement.

Advent Week 4 December 18-24
[Not so] Random Act of Kindness Demonstrated by: Magi
Act of Kindness Project of the Week: Bless someone with a material gift.
This week, we follow the Magi’s example and do an act of kindness through blessing someone with a material gift. Hebrews 13:16 commands us to “Not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Be creative who you give to—family members and close friends don’t count! Choose a person or family who you otherwise wouldn’t bless, or choose somebody who might not receive as many gifts as you this season. In giving material gifts to others we also get to glorify God!
